Apparently we have just released a new app for iPad. I swear, these days you can’t be sure of anything.

Anyway! It’s called Cardboard, it essentially is a piece of cardboard and it has the potential to give you a ton of fun! Basically it lets you write and display funny hobo signs — whenever you have something really important to say and you ran out of actual cardboard. We have three beautiful, realistic backgrounds, flexible text controls and even a library of funny lines. You can also share your hobo signs with your Facebook friends, Twitter followers or via email!

As a designer, I’d like to add an additional word about graphics: they’re all fully optimized for the gorgeous Retina Display of the new iPad. The way we do it, optimization goes from top to bottom — unlike most designers out there. What does it mean? Well, we simply design for Retina first, which allows us to pack in a TON of addition details and touches, which contribute to the awesomeness of the look and feel. When we’re done, we scale design down (using Bicubic Sharper resampling of course) and we review every single piece of the artwork, to make sure stuff sticks to 1px grid or isn’t blurred in any other way. I know it’s more time consuming than the traditional “design-vectors-upscale-later-and-hope-for-the-best” strategy, but in the case of Spoonjuice’s process — quality comes before convenience.
